Présentation

Formica rufibarbis is possibly more special to Surrey than any other species of animal: in mainland UK this ant is listed as endangered and has only ever been recorded in Surrey. Despite their size, ants are some of the most complex and fascinating animals on earth. They are highly social, living in structured communities complete with sophisticated communication systems, frequently interacting with a variety of other species from beetles to butterflies to the mutual benefit of both. This book tells the story of the Surrey ants complete with splendid colour photos made with the aid of a scanning electron microscope.
